Mr. Nev Davies (@nevtheknee) is an exceptionally well-regarded Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic (T&O) Surgeon based in Reading, UK, with over 14 years of dedicated service at The Royal Berkshire Hospital. Specialising in adult knee surgery and children’s trauma and orthopaedics, Nev is known for providing expert, patient-centred care for patients of all ages.

Life Beyond the Operating Theatre

Nev’s personal life is deeply rooted in sport. His wife, Lauren, a fellow consultant at RBH, is an accomplished Ironman triathlete and the 2024 Welsh Long Distance Champion after her remarkable age group win at Ironman Wales. Together, they have three active boys, all passionate about rugby, football, and cricket. The family’s sporting adventures even took them to Kona, Hawaii, in 2022 to watch Lauren compete in the Ironman World Championships.

Golf is Nev’s lifelong passion, inspired by his mother and MamGu (grandmother), both county players. A successful golfer in his own right, Nev has won several club championships and participated in prestigious tournaments, including open qualifying for The Open Championship two years in a row. Currently playing off a handicap of +1 at The Berkshire Golf Club, Nev sees strong parallels between his success on the golf course and his approach to surgery, emphasising the importance of preparation, consistency, and handling challenges with calm precision.

Nev is committed to reducing the rising tide of sports-related knee injuries, particularly in children and teenagers. With a keen focus on anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries—which can lead to long-term issues like early arthritis—Nev is a passionate advocate for injury prevention programmes. These programmes, when implemented correctly, have been shown to significantly reduce injury rates.

As a trustee of Power Up to Play, Nev is leading efforts to introduce proven injury prevention programmes into UK schools and sports clubs. His dedication to this cause has seen him speak at major conferences such as the Warwick Sports Knee Conference and the British Orthopaedic Association Congress. He’s driven to help protect young athletes and reduce the burden these injuries place on the NHS.
