Sara McDouall
Consultant Anaesthetist
About Sara McDouall
Dr Sara McDouall has been consultant anaesthetist with an interest in paediatric anaesthesia at the Royal Berkshire Hospital for 15 years. She has been working with the paedatric orthopaedic team for the last 6 years both in the NHS and the private sector.
Her anaesthetic practice is based around the importance of the right preparation for both the patient and their family, so that the anaesthetic and pain relief plans are created as part of a shared decision making process. To help with preparation for anaesthesia for younger patients, she co-created a preparation video available on YouTube ‘Magic Milk and Squidgy masks’, with 2.5 million views so far.
Sara’s patients are invited to choose their own music for the anaesthetic room, and works with parents and child to create a calm atmosphere to go to sleep.
Outside the hospital, Sara loves running and cycling, does the occasional (short) triathlon, enjoys singing, and spends time running after around 2 teenage boys who like to play golf and climb.
